Top 5 Wednesday – Books featuring GHOSTS!

It’s top 5 Wednesday time! Yes I know I’m really behind (again!) but I thought I would get this one sorted so I didn’t get any further behind. If you don’t know what top 5 Wednesday is then you can find all the information on the Goodreads group here. This week’s topic is books featuring (pick a paranormal creature) and I decided to go with GHOSTS! *Insert ghost emoji here* However as I think everyone is going to go with similar books I’ve decided to mix it up a little bit and go with a few different books that I think are less well known. Although not all the books may be full blown horror they do still contain ghosts but are different.

5. Vicky Angel by Jacqueline Wilson

Vicky Angel

This is a story about two best friends and one of them is killed in a car accident. The surviving friend is then haunted by the ghost of her friend who starts to control her life by telling her what to do or how to think.

This is more of a teenage/children’s book and not so much spooky but it does still contain a ghost so for those of you who really don’t like horror but still want to read something containing a paranormal entity then this is definitely the book for you.

4. Love Eternally by Deborah Wright

Love Eternally

Following on from the last book this is sort of similar however this is definitely an adult book not a children’s book. Steve dies on his 30th birthday before he gets the chance to tell his colleague that he loves her. He wakes up the next morning a ghost unable to move on until he understands about relationships. He watches as his colleague falls in love with another guy but then she starts to hear Steve’s voice. Can Steve finally find peace and move on or will he be stuck forever?

This is more of a ghost love story but not all soppy like most YA, this book does contain sex scenes (no not ghost ones, I’m not reading ghost erotica that’s too far) and as before if you want something with ghosts that isn’t scary then this is the book for you.

3. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

A Christmas Carol

We all know the story of Scrooge and with it coming up to Christmas this may be the perfect time to combine spooky and Christmassy with this book! Not only does it contain the three ghosts of Christmas but also contains the ghosts of his dead partners. A little more spooky however still not full blown horror so you’re safe if you just want a cozy read.

2. The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

The Lovely Bones

Although I absolutely hated this book it does contain a sort of ghost. “How can it contain a sort of ghost?” I hear you ask, well it is told from the POV of a dead girl who is watching over her family as they face the loss of their daughter. However she technically doesn’t do any ghosty things like moaning or flickering lights so I’m not really sure if you would count her as a ghost. Read it and let me know!

1. The Spook’s Apprentice by Joseph Delaney

The Spook's Apprentice (The Last Apprentice / Wardstone Chronicles #1)

It has been a while since I mentioned this series in a T5W and I had to mention it now because this book is all about ghosts, ghouls and things that go bump in the night! It is not fully horror and is more set up for children but I absolutely love this whole series. If you like witches, boggarts (no not the Harry Potter version) and ghosts then you will definitely love this book! Just go read it, I need everyone to read this book because I just think it is so good and it’s a perfect Halloween/spooky read!

There are my top 5 books with ghosts in! Although some aren’t horror they do still contain a ghost so I’ve included them for those of you who don’t like horror. Have you read any of these? Have you taken part in this weeks T5W? Let me know in the comments 🙂

Oooo – I’m so glad to see Dickens’ A Christmas Carol here! I love how this is perfect for any holiday, really, from Halloween to Christmas and even Valentines given the small romance here and there! 😀
