Fans of The Twilight Saga will be enthralled by this riveting story of Bree Tanner, a character first introduced in Eclipse, and the darker side of the newborn vampire world she inhabits.
Bree Tanner can barely remember life before she had uncannily powerful senses, superhuman reflexes, and unstoppable physical strength. Life before she had a relentless thirst for blood…life before she became a vampire.
All Bree knows is that living with her fellow newborns has few certainties and even fewer rules: watch your back, don’t draw attention to yourself, and above all, make it home by sunrise or die. What she doesn’t know: her time as an immortal is quickly running out.
Then Bree finds an unexpected friend in Diego, a newborn just as curious as Bree about their mysterious creator, whom they only know as her. As they come to realize that the newborns are pawns in a game larger than anything they could have imagined, Bree and Diego must choose sides and decide whom to trust. But when everything you know about vampires is based on a lie, how do you find the truth?
In another irresistible combination of danger, mystery, and romance, Stephenie Meyer tells the devastating story of the newborn army as they prepare to close in on Bella Swan and the Cullens, following their encounter to its unforgettable conclusion.
I think you will only like this book if you liked the rest of the Twilight series, if you didn’t like that then 1. why would you read a novella in the series? and 2. you probably won’t like this book.
The book is a novella therefore it is a short read, pretty easy to complete in one sitting as you can fly through it, there are no chapters so it is easy to read the whole thing in one sitting as you don’t really realise how far through it you are.
The story is a fast paced read, it shows the story of Bree (one of the newborns in the Eclipse book in the twilight series), her transformation into a vampire and how she views the world.
If you have read Eclipse then you know what happens to Bree therefore you already know the ending of the book however it does add some insight into the story, how the newborns were treated, what they were told etc. I did enjoy the book, it was a nice added extra into the series and was a bit of a relief to no longer see the story from the point of view of Bella.
I liked Bree’s voice, she was confused as a newborn however was trying to figure things out and stay alive. It is a short read and if you enjoyed the rest of the series you will enjoy this.
As the book is only short I cannot give it too much of a full review without giving away spoilers so I will leave it at that. I would recommend it however it’s highly likely that you will only like it if you liked (or didn’t despise) the rest of the series.
Summing up: Short, a nice addition to the series
