Something strange is happening at the Orsk furniture superstore in Cleveland, Ohio. Every morning, employees arrive to find broken Kjerring bookshelves, shattered Glans water goblets, and smashed Liripip wardrobes. Sales are down, security cameras reveal nothing, and store managers are panicking.

To unravel the mystery, three employees volunteer to work a nine-hour dusk-till-dawn shift. In the dead of the night, they’ll patrol the empty showroom floor, investigate strange sights and sounds, and encounter horrors that defy the imagination.

A traditional haunted house story in a thoroughly contemporary setting, Horrorstör comes packaged in the form of a glossy mail order catalog, complete with product illustrations, a home delivery order form, and a map of Orsk’s labyrinthine showroom.

This is such an amazing book, I don’t know where to begin with this review…just wow.

The book is set up in the form of an IKEA catalogue which is completely unique and when I first picked it up I thought it was going to be a bit stupid however it really adds to the book and makes it so memorable.

It is in the horror category and all the reviews said that it was terrifying, I went into this book already feeling a little bit dubious, all the so called “horror” books are never actually that scary, they are usually about ghosts or something but they aren’t actually scary. However this book really is scary, the main character is so level headed that it really adds to the scariness of the book because most people would do the exact same thing in that situation and she did everything right, there was no checking out of strange noises, asking whos there etc. it was a girl doing everything right to survive, that’s what makes this book so scary.

As the book is set in a store and does have elements of humour it makes it so funny for people who have worked in retail. You can relate to the stories of how badly customers treat them and how the corporate head wants everything perfect however in reality it is never going to happen. It is so relatable and this book is a definite read for those who have horror stories themselves about working in retail. Those people who hear the phrase “this store is like a family” and you shudder, you know these people because you see them all day every day, they are not your family though, you just put up with each other for the sake of it. The main character Amy is one of these people, she works in the store day in and day out because she needs the money to pay off her student loans, she hates the job but like many people needs the money so puts up with the hours.

At the start of each chapter shows an item of furniture which seems so innocent at the start however throughout the book the items get more sinister and more deadly. Each of the items shows up somewhere in that chapter relating to the story somehow.

The story is funny and relatable at the start so you’re questioning where does the horror part come in? Well about half-way through some of the staff are asked to stay behind after closing to try and catch whoever is breaking things and messing up the store…well it goes downhill from there really.

As I said earlier horror books nowadays don’t tend to be that scary other than Stephen King the rest are just “ohh there’s a ghost what shall we do?” This book is creepy and at certain times disturbing. If you aren’t a fan of horror or are scared easily then definitely do not read this book!

From the cover and first few pages this book may look nice and friendly so you may think that the reviews about gruesome tales are all lies…I promise you unless you are definitely a fan of horror do not read this! It is probably one of the best horror books I’ve ever read however it isn’t a jump scare book, it’s the kind of horror that stays with you and plays on your mind so please do not read this unless you are 100% comfortable with horror and being scared.

I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it to people however just as a final warning again: only read this book if you are ok being scared! It is a disturbing book that if you love horror you will definitely love however it should come with a warning because it is quite scary

Rating: 5/5

Summing up: Unique yet terrifying horror
