Desperate to rescue her brother, Edna sets off across the kingdom to the hags’ swamp, with Ike in tow. There, they learn Coglings are also replacing nobility so the hags can stage a rebellion and rule over humanity. Edna and Ike must stop the revolt, but the populace believes hags are helpful godmothers and healers. No one wants to believe a lowly servant and a thief, especially when Ike has secrets that label them both as traitors.
Together, Edna and Ike must make the kingdom trust them or stop the hags themselves, even if Ike is forced to embrace his dark heritage and Edna must surrender her family.

This book was amazing! I’ve read many a steampunk novel however this approach was completely different to anything I’ve read before!
The story starts with Edna being awoken by a mysterious sound, the next morning her brother isn’t his usual self and when Edna finds a very expensive pocket watch on him she removes it and her brother disintegrates into a pile of cogs and gears! She then learns that her real brother was kidnapped and therefore she sets off with her new friend Ike to find him.
This is a gripping adventure tale, it also has other aspects thrown in – there’s a romance between the two main characters Ike and Edna which we get to see grow as the novel progresses, we also have fantasy as there is magic integrated into the story. Basically this book appeals to every reader! I personally loved the whole story, the writing was amazing and felt so realistic. It is an amazing and gripping story that I think will appeal to every type of reader, I would highly recommend this story!
